Wedding at Herdade da Emberiza | Catarina + Diogo

Some weddings are just a sequence of honest, unscripted moments. Catarina and Diogo’s day in Alenquer was exactly that—a celebration where the emotions were as real as the laughter that followed. From a deeply moving ceremony to a reception filled with unexpected, funny details, it was a day that reminded me why I love being a documentary wedding photographer.

Tears at Igreja de São Francisco

The ceremony took place at the stunning Igreja de São Francisco. One of the most powerful moments of the day was seeing Catarina walk down the aisle. She chose both her father and her grandfather to accompany her, and the weight of the moment wasn't lost on anyone. Both men couldn't stop crying from the moment they started walking until they reached the altar. It was an incredibly emotional and sincere start to their life together.

A Tiny Protagonist and a Table Football Match

After the vows, the celebration moved to Herdade da Emberiza. While the couple was obviously the center of attention, their 5-year-old niece, Mimi, almost stole the show. She was completely delighted with Catarina, following the bride around all day with eyes full of wonder.

The energy shifted during the reception when a table football setup became the focal point for the friends. It delivered some of the funniest moments of the afternoon, with everyone getting surprisingly competitive and creating the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes for the best candid photos.

The Ice Cream Box Strategy

One of the most memorable (and hilarious) detail of the night involved Catarina’s grandmother. She had come prepared with an empty ice cream box, specifically to ensure she could take a slice of the wedding cake home. It was a moment of practical genius that had everyone laughing and perfectly captured the genuine, family-oriented spirit of the day.
